Frequently Asked Questions
-
The Restful Sleep Place is a sleep medicine practice founded by Dr. Funke Afolabi-Brown, one of a very small number of physicians in the country who is triple board-certified in both pediatric and adult sleep medicine. Unlike a traditional sleep clinic where you wait months for an appointment and leave with a diagnosis and little else, we provide ongoing, personalized care that continues until your sleep actually improves. We see women in midlife, children, teens, and families, in person in Horsham, PA and via telehealth across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and California.
-
Dr. Funke Afolabi-Brown is a triple board-certified sleep medicine physician trained at the University of Pennsylvania and former faculty at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She is one of the few physicians in the country board-certified in pediatrics, pediatric pulmonology, and sleep medicine, meaning she brings rare depth to both adult and childhood sleep disorders. She is also a bestselling author, national speaker, and has been featured on ABC, Forbes, Fox News, and the Wall Street Journal. More importantly, she is a physician who has personally struggled with insomnia, which means she understands what you are going through in a way that goes beyond clinical training.
-
We are a cash-pay practice, which means we do not bill insurance directly. This is a deliberate choice and it allows Dr. Brown to spend the time your situation actually requires rather than the time your insurance approves. We provide detailed superbills for all medical visits, which you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many patients also use HSA or FSA funds to cover their care. Payment plans are available for our programs. And practically speaking, the wait to see a sleep specialist through insurance in this area is typically six to twelve months. We can usually see you within two weeks
-
Yes, and this is rare. Dr. Brown is one of very few sleep physicians in the country with board certification in both adult and pediatric sleep medicine. This means your entire family can receive care in one place, from your toddler who won't sleep through the night to the perimenopausal woman in the house who hasn't slept well in years. You don't need separate specialists for different family members.
-
Yes. Telehealth appointments are available for patients in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and California. Most of our program patients complete their care virtually, which means you get the same comprehensive, physician-led sleep medicine without driving to an office. In-person appointments are available at our Horsham, PA location for patients who prefer them or for specific clinical needs.
-
Our office is located at 200 Lakeside Drive, Suite 226, Horsham, PA 19044, easily accessible from the Main Line, Philadelphia, and surrounding areas. We offer both in-person and telehealth visits, so your location within Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or California doesn't limit your ability to work with Dr. Brown. Most patients begin with a virtual free consultation and decide together with Dr. Brown whether in-person care makes sense for their situation
-
The free 15-minute consultation is a brief call with Dr. Brown where you can share what's been going on with your sleep, ask your questions, and get a sense of whether this practice is the right fit for you. There's no obligation and no medical advice given. Think of it as a conversation to make sure we're the right match before you commit to anything. Most patients find that hearing Dr. Brown's direct, unhurried approach answers questions that no website page could. You can book one today. Appointments are typically available within one to two weeks.
-
Your Sleep Clarity Consultation is a full 60-minute evaluation with Dr. Brown. She will review your complete sleep history, prior records, current symptoms, and any relevant medical background. You will leave with a clear diagnosis or working assessment, a personalized Sleep Blueprint™ outlining your next steps, and any orders for sleep studies, labs, or treatment that are clinically indicated. Unlike a typical 15-minute insurance visit, this is an unhurried, physician-led conversation designed to actually understand your sleep — not just check boxes. If ongoing program care is recommended, your consultation fee is credited toward the program cost.
-
Yes. We offer home sleep studies that are shipped directly to your door. You sleep in your own bed, in your own environment, and return the device when you're done. Results are typically available within two weeks, compared to the six to twelve month wait time for a traditional sleep lab. Dr. Brown interprets every study personally and provides a comprehensive report. Home sleep testing is appropriate for most patients with suspected sleep apnea and is available both as part of our programs and as a standalone service for patients referred by their physician.
-
Most sleep clinics diagnose and discharge. You see a physician once, get a CPAP machine, and schedule a follow-up in six months. If the CPAP doesn't work or the problem is more complex than sleep apnea, you're largely on your own. We work differently. Dr. Brown stays with you until your sleep actually stabilizes, not until your insurance runs out or your appointment slot ends. You have direct access to her between visits, not a portal that goes unanswered or a phone tree that leads nowhere. She personally interprets your sleep study, personally reviews your labs, and personally adjusts your treatment as your sleep changes. That level of continuity is what makes lasting results possible, and it's what you cannot get from a traditional sleep clinic, regardless of how long you wait for an appointment
-
The first step is your free 15-minute consultation with Dr. Brown. Book directly through the website; appointments are typically available within one to two weeks. Come with your questions, your sleep history, and any prior records if you have them. Dr. Brown will tell you honestly whether she can help you and what that would look like. There's no pressure and no obligation. If you're ready to skip the consult and move directly to a Sleep Clarity Consultation, you can book that too. Either way, you don't have to keep waiting for sleep to get better on its own.
